About Bucharest University of Economic Studies
The Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE) is a public university in Bucharest, Romania. It was founded in 1913 by the Royal Decree of Carol I of Romania as the Academy of Higher-Level Commercial and Industrial Studies.
In 1947, it was reorganised and merged with the Academy of Cooperative Studies to form the Academy of Commercial and Cooperative Studies. Then during the Communist Era, it was turned into the Institute for Economic Sciences and Planning in 1948, to follow a model of Soviet higher education systems.
It was finally renamed The Bucharest University of Economic Studies in 1967.
It was the first economic higher education institution established in Romania and has now become the largest, in both Romania and Southeastern Europe.
It is one of the five members of the Universitaria Consortium, the group of elite Romanian universities.
It has 22,684 students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, across 11 faculties: the faculty of business administration in foreign languages, the faculty of administration and public management, the faculty of business and tourism, the faculty of economic cybernetics, the faculty of statistics and informatics, the faculty of accounting and environmental economics, the faculty of finance, the faculty of insurance, the faculty of banking and stock exchange, the faculty of management, the faculty of marketing, the faculty of international business and economics.
ASE is currently involved in a wide range of national and global research projects and has earned an outstanding reputation for its output and academic programs.
Bucharest is the capital and largest city in Romania, located in the southeast of the country on the banks of the Dambovita River, less than 60km north of the Danube River and the Bulgarian border.
