Iqra University

Iqra University is a private university primarily located in the Defence Area of Karachi, Pakistan, with a further six campuses in other parts of the city as well as a campus in the capital city of Islamabad.

Founded in 1998 as the Asian Management Institute (AMI), the university gained its current name after being granted university status in 2002 by Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission.

The university has about 5,000 students studying in graduate, undergraduate and PhD programmes in many disciplines, such as electrical engineering, computer science, business administration, international relations, development studies, fashion design and textile design. Students must take an admissions test before joining the university.

As the higher learning institution with the largest research publication output in the country, the university is also the largest employer of PhD holders.

Facilities include a sports complex with a swimming pool and a gymnasium, a library with over 80,000 books, a 450-person auditorium, and a 1:1 student to computer ratio.

The Islamabad campus, spread over five acres is also home to several other prestigious educational institutions.

The Islamabad campus facilities include a well-stocked library, state-of-the-art computing facilities, well-equipped teaching labs, central air-conditioned classrooms equipped with the latest audio-visual aids, an auditorium, a seminar room, sports facilities and a prayer hall.

Sports teams have achieved the highest number of awards among all private-sector institutions and have also represented Pakistan in the Asian Games.

The university has formed partnerships with various American and European universities, including Coventry University, Arizona State University, and Boston University.
